Facebook Goes to Cambridge (Analytica)

Are you a victim of Facebook’s breach of trust? The data of over 50 million Facebook users was breached by political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica. Many are now being urged to #DeleteFacebook in protest, with even notable celebrity figures leading the counter-attack.

Facebook has indeed promised to make changes that would grant its users more control over privacy settings, and in effect more control over their data. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has apologised for the situation but his initial handling of it has been widely criticised, with many claiming a disingenuous apology was given.

This package contains an interview with Deborah Lupton, Centenary Research Professor in the Faculty of Arts & Design, University of Canberra. Contrasting with mainstream media coverage, Deborah Lupton believes there are a number of fallacies surrounding the shock at both Facebook and Cambridge Analytica’s actions.
